Then, when nothing seemed out of the ordinary, a car appeared ahead. It was a nondescript sedan, its headlights barely cutting through the dim evening light. The car was moving at a slow pace, somewhat too slow for the usual traffic patterns of this isolated road  

the kind that often precedes something unexpected. The surrounding forest was dense and shadowy, the trees standing like silent sentinels on either side of the remote country road.
