It all began with an eight-year-old boy named Leo. He had been admitted to the hospital with a serious infection that was spreading dangerously fast. The doctors feared that if it reached his kidneys, the damage could be irreversible. After several rounds of antibiotics, his condition wasn\u2019t improving the way they had hoped. That was when the surgical team decided an intervention was necessary\u2014and it had to be done quickly.<\/p>\n

I was assigned to prepare him for surgery. My role was to comfort Leo, explain what was about to happen in simple words, gently administer anesthesia, and make sure he felt safe.
