John Amos, an actor best known for his roles in \u201cRoots\u201d, \u201cGood Times\u201d, and \u201cComing To America\u201d passed away back in August.<\/p>\n

He died at age 84 from natural causes in Los Angeles on August 21, according to a statement obtained by NBC News from the actor\u2019s publicist.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a career spanning over five decades, Amos leaves behind a legacy of groundbreaking work on both television and film, and a dedication to positive African American representation in media,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

His son Kelly Christopher Amos referred to his dad as \u201cmy best friend, and my hero.\u201d<\/p>\n
