An undetermined number of individuals are reported to have attended the event, which was a Filipino community festival called the Lapu Lapu Day festival.<\/p>\n

Confirming the news of the tragic incident, Vancouver Police Department said in a social media post, \u201cA number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8 p.m. tonight. The driver is in custody. We will provide more information as the investigation unfolds.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to a police update, a 30-year-old guy from Vancouver was taken into custody on the spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigation is ongoing and is being led the Vancouver Police Department\u2019s Major Crime Section,\u201d <\/strong>officials stated.<\/p>\n

According to BBC News<\/a>, witnesses said that the man drove \u201ccompletely straight, right through the crowd.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bao Buns food truck\u2019s co-owner, Yoseb Vardeh, who was present at the incident, believed the driver had reached speeds of up to 100 km\/h (62 mph).<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he was going for maximum damage,\u201d<\/strong>he continued to tell the BBC. \u201cI just saw bodies underneath people\u2019s food trucks, and husbands crying out for their wife, or their kids, it was just horrible.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
