He shook his head and left the room. That\u2019s what they\u2019d been doing ever since. Leaving the room every time I showed up, every time I accomplished something. And now this.<\/p>\n

I looked at Melissa. She didn\u2019t say a word. She didn\u2019t need to. I wasn\u2019t angry yet. That would come later. Right now, all I felt was that numb kind of ache. The one that whispers, \u201cYou were never really theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n
