Then they walked out. The door closed. And for the first time in my adult life\u2014after deployments, funerals, promotions, and nights spent awake in foreign countries\u2014I felt something I hadn\u2019t felt in years. I felt like a lonely, unwanted kid again.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the darkness of that room, surrounded by shredded silk and ruined lace, I made a decision that would change everything.<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t sleep after my parents walked out. I just sat there on the carpet, knees bent, surrounded by what used to be my wedding dresses\u2014laces, torn bodices, sliced fabric dangling like wounded skin. The room felt smaller than ever, shrinking around me with every breath.<\/span><\/p>\n
