According to preliminary data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located in a mountainous area in eastern\u00a0\u00a0Burma<\/strong>\u00a0, near the border with Thailand, at a depth of approximately\u00a0\u00a010 kilometers<\/strong>\u00a0, which increases its destructive potential.<\/p>\n

The earthquake was\u00a0\u00a0felt with great intensity<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0in several major cities such as\u00a0\u00a0Yangon, Chiang Mai and Bangkok<\/strong>\u00a0, where many residents ran out of their homes in the midst of the tremor.<\/p>\n
