The guide’s heart was pounding wildly. He knew running was pointless: the lions were faster, stronger – and they probably thought he was trying to harm their cub. He trembled with fear but tried not to move.
“This is it,” he thought.
One of the lionesses, presumably the mother, slowly approached and extended her muzzle toward the man. She carefully grabbed the cub by the scruff, as if checking that it was okay. The little one squeaked pitifully but immediately buried its nose in its mother’s neck.
In that moment, the man felt the tension ease slightly, though his legs still trembled.
Then the other lionesses came closer too. But instead of attacking, they gently touched his hands with their wet noses – and one even licked his wrist.
It seemed they understood: this stranger was not an enemy. He had saved their child.

The tourists on the shore stood frozen in complete silence. No one could believe their eyes – something like this couldn’t be seen even in the best nature documentaries.
The man, however, stood in the middle of the river, surrounded by lions.
When the lions finally backed away, he cautiously returned to the shore.
At the end, he just smiled and whispered softly:
“For moments like this, it’s worth risking everything.”
