The silence in the room felt heavier than usual. Victor, a man just over forty, sat on the edge of the sofa, staring at the TV where the news was playing. But he didn’t hear a single word. His thoughts wandered far away — into memories, doubts, uncertainty.
A year ago, everything changed. He lost his wife, and six months later another woman suddenly appeared in his life. They met at work: the woman had recently been promoted and became head of the HR department. At first, it was simple conversations by the coffee machine, then occasional meetings after work. Without Victor even realizing it, her presence became constant. And one day, she was already living in their house.
That day began as usual. But a faint noise in the hallway pulled Victor out of his thoughts. He looked up and saw his seven-year-old daughter in the doorway. Normally she would burst into the room with laughter and questions, but now she stood still, slouched, staring stubbornly at the floor.
— Sweetheart… is everything okay? — Victor immediately noticed something was wrong.
