Ethan, you’re very brave to speak up,” Richard said, giving the young boy a reassuring nod. “Can you tell us more about what you saw?”

Ethan nodded hesitantly, still gripping his blanket. “She was looking through the drawers. I woke up and saw her putting papers in her bag. I pretended to be asleep, but I saw her take the folder.”

The hospital’s chief administrator, a stern woman named Dr. Alice Brown, stepped forward, her expression one of concern and determination. “We will look into this immediately. Security will review the footage from last night,” she announced, motioning for a nearby guard to escort the woman out for questioning.

The woman in scrubs, realizing her position was rapidly deteriorating, attempted to make a break for the door, but was quickly apprehended by the guard. As she was led away, she cast a final, venomous glance at Ethan and Richard, but Richard stood firm, his eyes conveying both anger and resolve.

“Thank you for your courage, Ethan,” Richard said softly, placing a comforting hand on the boy’s shoulder. “We’ll make sure you and all the other children are safe.”

The atmosphere in the room shifted from tension to a collective sigh of relief, though the undercurrent of shock remained. Ethan’s bravery had brought attention to a potential threat, and while the immediate danger seemed averted, the investigation would now need to uncover the full extent of the breach.

Dr. Brown assured Richard that the hospital would cooperate fully with law enforcement, and she thanked him and Ethan for bringing the issue to light.

As Richard left the room, he was acutely aware of the responsibility that now rested on his shoulders. His visit, originally intended as a gesture of goodwill, had turned into a pivotal moment of advocacy and protection for the vulnerable children he had set out to help. It was a reminder that philanthropy was not always about money—it was about vigilance, integrity, and the courage to stand up for what is right, especially when the stakes were so high.
