The Viral Pope and Trump Video

After Pope Francis’s recent passing, a video involving him and Donald Trump resurfaced online, sparking debates about its authenticity. The clip, which shows Pope Francis swatting away Trump’s hand during a handshake, was widely shared. It even displayed a CNN logo, giving the impression it was real news footage.

Fact-Checking the Footage

However, The Dispatch Fact Check quickly debunked the video. CNN confirmed that the footage was fake. To clarify, journalist Daniel Baldwin shared the original CNN footage from March 2017, showing Trump’s visit to the Vatican without any hand-swatting incident.

A Comedic Origin

The viral video actually came from a comedic skit on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The scene of the Pope brushing away Trump’s hand was a satirical addition to the real 2017 meeting, created for comedic effect.

Social Media Confusion

Despite its comedic nature, the video confused many viewers. Some questioned its authenticity, while others wished it were real simply for the entertainment value. One user exclaimed, “Wait, this really happened? It’s not edited?” Another wrote, “Please let this be real.”

AI Clarifies the Truth

Users turned to Grok, the AI assistant on X (formerly Twitter), for answers. Grok confirmed that the video was fake, originating from Jimmy Kimmel’s 2017 comedy skit. The original footage from the Vatican meeting had no such interaction.

Reactions to the Reveal

While some found the video humorous, others were disappointed by the truth. One fan commented, “I laugh every time I see it—it’s like something siblings would do.”

Reflecting on Pope Francis’s Legacy

As the viral video frenzy died down, news emerged that Vice President JD Vance met with Pope Francis just a day before his death. The conversation details have since been shared as Catholics around the world mourn.

Looking ahead, attention shifts to the Vatican as they prepare to select a new pope, with the world watching for the symbolic black or white smoke signaling the decision.

  • The morning after my husband’s funeral, I returned home to find my father-in-law changing the locks. “Only bl00d relatives live here,” he coldly announced. I looked at him and whispered one sentence that made his entire family’s faces go pale.
  • On Christmas Day, my father announced that he had sold the family company and that I would not receive anything at all. While my older siblings were still smiling, pleased with themselves, convinced my share had finally been erased for good, I stood up and calmly stated the identity of the person who had secretly bought it back. All the sounds of glasses clinking suddenly stopped.

  • A one-legged veteran stood for hours in the rain on November 11th — people mocked him, until a little boy stepped forward and made the whole town fall silent The rain had been falling since dawn — thin, cold, and relentless. Main Street in Cedar Falls, a small town in Virginia, was lined with flags fluttering weakly in the November wind. At the corner, beside the old post office, a man in a faded Navy uniform stood motionless. His name was Henry Cole, 63 years old — a retired sailor who had lost his right leg in the Persian Gulf. Now, on Veterans Day, he stood on his prosthetic leg, his hand raised in salute toward the soaked flag above the courthouse. People passed by. Some stopped to stare; others whispered. A group of teenagers across the street laughed — “What’s he proving, standing out here in the rain?” Henry didn’t turn. Rain slid down his weathered face like tears he refused to shed. He had promised himself that this year, no matter the pain, he would stand for those who couldn’t anymore. And then — just as the parade began to roll down the street — a small boy broke away from the crowd. He ran through the puddles toward the old sailor… and what happened next made the whole town fall silent.
