“This crazy dog, get it out of here!”
I trembled, apologizing to the guests.
Everyone thought Max was panicking because of the crowd, but I had a strange feeling in my heart.
Max had never bitten anyone – he grew up with me since college, gentle, smart, and very loyal.
The wedding was postponed.
That night, when I took Mark to get bandaged, he was silent the whole way.
I tried to comfort him:
“Max must be scared. I’m sorry, don’t be angry.”
He forced a smile:
“It’s okay, it’s just a dog.”
But his hand was shaking, and his eyes were evasive.
I didn’t ask any more, only feeling cold inside.
That night, Max was locked outside on the porch. He howled long, like he was crying.
