My father had been strict but fair, and I always believed he would divide everything equally. But when the notary opened the document and began to read, it felt like the ground disappeared beneath my feet.

The business, the house, the accounts, all the property — everything went to my younger sister and my brother. And I… my father left me only one thing: “his loyal dog and the request to take care of him.” I didn’t understand at first. A dog? Only a dog?
