They got on the train and left. The dog ran after them all the way to the tunnel until the doors closed.

Since then, it comes to this exact spot every single day. It believes they’ll return on the same train. We’ve tried to take it, people offered it a home, but every time the same thing happens — it slips away, runs back here, and sits on the tracks again. It guards its post. It still believes in the people who betrayed it long ago.

And in that moment, even the most indifferent passersby fell silent, realizing: the dog wasn’t strange, or homeless, or wild. It was loyal. So loyal that it continued to wait for those who never even looked back.
