But it was right after that tea that I stopped remembering how I fell asleep, what happened during the night, and why I woke up in the morning completely exhausted, with a horrible weakness in my body, as if I hadn’t rested at all.

I began to suspect that my husband was slipping something into my tea to knock me out.

That evening, I decided to test my suspicions. I pretended to drink the tea but secretly poured it out. Half an hour later, I told him I was tired and wanted to sleep. He believed me. I lay down, pulled the blanket over myself, and closed my eyes, trying to breathe calmly and evenly.
