The ballerina felt ashamed in front of the other dancers when her father brought her ballet shoes прямо into the hall: when everyone started laughing at her, the girl drove her father away, but then something unexpected happened 😱😥
The morning at Anna’s home began with resentment and anger. She had once again argued with her father over her ballet shoes. The girl had been taking dance lessons for three years and dreamed of becoming a real ballerina one day. In the studio, the other girls had beautiful costumes and expensive pointe shoes, while everything she had was old and worn out.
What upset her the most were her shoes. They were worn, darkened, and scuffed in places, and Anna felt that it was because of them that everyone looked at her with pity.
Her father had been getting ready for work since early morning. He worked at a construction site, took on the hardest jobs, came home exhausted, with a sore back and rough hands. Once again, Anna began asking him to buy her new ballet shoes. She said she was ashamed to go into the studio, that there was a performance coming soon, that everyone was laughing at her.
Her father calmly explained that there was no money at the moment, that they needed to wait a little, that he would definitely find a way. But Anna didn’t want to listen anymore. In anger, she grabbed her old shoes and threw them straight at her father.
Her father simply lowered his eyes, picked them up from the floor, and said nothing. Anna quickly got ready and left for training, slamming the door loudly behind her. It seemed to her that no one understood her. And he stood for a few more seconds in the hallway holding those shoes in his hands, as if thinking about something. Then he took them with him and went to work.
It was a hard day at the construction site. But even there, her father couldn’t stop thinking about his daughter. During his lunch break, he took out the old shoes, gently shook them off, cleaned all the dirt with a cloth, carefully washed the worn spots, then found some gold paint and began to carefully cover the fabric.
By the end of the day, the old shoes had truly transformed. They shone and looked almost new. Not perfect, of course, but beautiful and elegant.
Her father looked at them and smiled for the first time that day. He really wanted to make his daughter happy. So after work, tired and still in his work clothes, he went straight to the dance school.
A rehearsal was taking place in the ballet studio. The girls were standing at the barre, repeating their movements. Anna tried not to get distracted until a quiet murmur spread through the room. One of the dancers noticed a man at the door and looked at him in surprise. Then another turned around. Within seconds, everyone was looking at him.
— Who is that?
— What is he doing here?
— Why does he look like a homeless man?
— Ugh, he smells awful.
At first, Anna didn’t understand who they were talking about, but then she turned around and froze. Her father was standing in the doorway. Tired, dusty, wearing an old work jacket.
— Daughter, here, I brought your shoes, — he said. — Look, I fixed them. Now you can train and perform спокойно.
At that moment, the room fell silent, and then someone giggled. Soon the others started laughing too.
— Is that your father?
— Are you from a poor family?
— How embarrassing.
Anna felt so ashamed that her face burned. She felt all eyes on her and, instead of going up to her father, thanking him, and hugging him, she became afraid of the laughter.
— No, that’s not my father, — she said sharply. — He’s my father’s assistant.
Her father immediately fell silent. His face changed, but he still held the shoes in his hands.
Anna quickly walked up to him, snatched the shoes from his hands, and threw them angrily onto the floor.
— Get out of here, you’re embarrassing me, — she said loudly enough for everyone to hear.
Her father didn’t justify himself, didn’t argue, didn’t say a single harsh word. He just looked at his daughter quietly, bent down, picked up one of the shoes from the floor, placed it back, and slowly walked out of the room.
But then something unexpected happened, after which Anna deeply regretted what she had done 😱😨 The continuation of the story can be found in the first comment 👇👇
Only when the door closed behind him did Anna suddenly feel something heavy inside. But her pride didn’t let her run after him. She pretended that nothing had happened, picked up the shoes, dusted them off, and continued the training.
That evening, her father wasn’t home. He came back very late, when Anna was already in her room. He didn’t come in to see her, didn’t say anything, and from that day on seemed even quieter.
The next day, there was a box on Anna’s bed. Inside were new ballet shoes — not repainted, but completely new.
Anna was so happy that she took the shoes, hugged them tightly, and ran to training.
After the competition, she was given a title, awarded a diploma, and praised for her technique and expressiveness. Everyone around her smiled, congratulated her, and the girls who had laughed at her yesterday now looked at her differently.
Anna stood there holding her award and suddenly realized she had no one to share this joy with. Her father wasn’t there.
When she got home, the phone rang almost immediately. The voice on the other end sounded strange. She was told that her father was in the hospital. He had fallen ill at work. Due to exhaustion and endless extra shifts, he had suffered a serious attack.
It felt as if the ground had disappeared from under Anna’s feet. She stood in the middle of the room, holding the diploma tightly, unable to believe what she had heard.
All the words she had said to him in the studio immediately came back to her. She remembered how he smiled, how he held those golden repainted shoes, how he quietly left without saying a word.
She rushed to the hospital without feeling her legs or her breath. Even outside the room, she was trembling with fear. When she entered, her father was lying on the bed, very pale, thin, and unusually weak. His strong hands, used to hard work, now lay motionless on top of the blanket. Anna stepped closer, sat beside him, and couldn’t hold back her tears.
— Dad, forgive me, — she whispered, squeezing his hand. — Please forgive me. It’s my fault. I was terrible. You wanted to do something good for me, and I… I’m so ashamed of what I said. I should never have acted like that. Never.
Tears streamed down her face one after another. She no longer thought about the girls in the studio, or other people’s opinions, or the beautiful shoes, or the awards. In that moment, she wanted only one thing — for her father to open his eyes and hear her.
After some time, he actually regained consciousness. He saw his daughter beside him, saw her tears, and weakly squeezed her hand. And at that moment, Anna began to cry even harder, because she understood the most important thing.
