Her mate, clearly distressed, immediately flew to her side. Seeing that she was still barely moving, he brought bits of food, attempting to help her recover. But nothing could revive her.

Desperate, he nudged her, trying to lift her frail body, perhaps hoping to carry her to safety. But it was too late. As the truth sank in, the male swallow let out loud cries, fluttering his wings in sorrow—a raw display of emotion few would expect from a bird.

The pain of losing a loved one is universally devastating, and this scene was a striking reminder of that.
