A shocking scene captured at sea shows a fisherman with an octopus wrapped around his face and neck as he tries to control the animal with his hands.
Octopuses have hundreds of suckers along their tentacles, allowing them to grip surfaces firmly. When they feel threatened or are handled by humans, they may tighten their grip, making them difficult to remove.
Although most octopuses do not pose a serious threat to humans, a situation like this can become dangerous, especially if the tentacles cover the nose or mouth and interfere with breathing. Their suckers can also cause skin irritation, pain, and bruising.
If an octopus attaches itself to someone’s face, the person should seek help immediately, protect their airway, and avoid pulling the animal away forcefully. Bites should also be taken seriously, as certain species, such as the blue-ringed octopus, carry powerful venom that can cause paralysis and severe breathing difficulties.
