At first, it was just little things. I’d cook dinner — she would “accidentally” oversalt the soup when I wasn’t paying attention. I’d do laundry — she’d somehow add bleach to my colored clothes. She always claimed it was unintentional.
Then my makeup started disappearing. My favorite lipstick turned up broken, and my skincare products were mysteriously emptied. When I confronted her, she just gave me a confused look and said:
One night, I woke up to a strange smell — the bedroom reeked of burning fabric. I rushed to the kitchen: the oven was on, and inside were my shoes. The very same ones I’d planned to wear to a job interview. Of course, she denied it:
— «It must have been a prank from one of the neighbors.»
I almost laughed at the absurdity — but it wasn’t funny.
The breaking point came with the dress. The one I had planned to wear to my friend’s wedding. It had been hanging in the closet for a week, and I checked on it every day. But two hours before I was supposed to leave, I found it… slashed into pieces.
My mother-in-law walked by the room and calmly said:
— «If it’s not yours, it’s not meant for you.»
I told my husband everything, but he didn’t believe me. He told me I was imagining things. That’s when I decided to install a camera — and what I saw on it left me stunned 😱😱
I pointed the camera at the kitchen. I thought the worst I’d witness was her spitting in my food or pouring salt on my plants. But the truth was far more horrifying.
On the second day, while reviewing the footage, I saw her approach my mug. She pulled out a small white packet and poured something into my tea. It looked like sugar, but I could tell it wasn’t. Then, she stirred it with a spoon.
Her smile was eerie, hollow. She muttered to herself:
— «This is better. You shouldn’t be here.»
I couldn’t sleep that night. The next morning, I took the USB stick to the police.
That evening, I packed up my things and left. My husband was away on a business trip, and I didn’t explain anything over the phone. I needed to put my safety first and explain things later.
A week later, I got the results. The powder she had been putting in my tea was a veterinary sedative, commonly used to euthanize animals. In small doses, it causes weakness, dizziness, and drowsiness. In larger amounts, it can lead to loss of consciousness and even respiratory failure.
I remembered feeling strangely fatigued a few times, as if I was losing track of time. I had thought it was just exhaustion.
Now she’s under investigation. My husband is still in shock. He can’t believe his mother could do something so evil.
