He went back to the kitchen, this time trying to calm the cat down with some meat and affection, and even checked the litter box just in case. Finding no reason for the cat’s apparent hysteria, the man went back to bed. But again, as soon as he left the kitchen, the cat started howling.

Eventually, the man lost patience — his poor health only made him more irritated by the cat’s strange behavior. In frustration, he chased the cat out of the kitchen with a wet rag and shut the door in its face. The cat then sat by the closed door and began crying once more.

Realizing that sleep was impossible, the man gave up and decided to make himself some coffee. As he approached the stove, he noticed that one of the burners was open — but there was no flame.

It turned out the cat hadn’t just been acting up for no reason — he’d been trying to warn the man of the danger the whole time.
