I froze, shocked. My dog, Rocky, was lying calmly by the flowerbed, tail wagging gently. We’d had him for nearly five years—smart, gentle, and never once aggressive. Yet here was this woman accusing him of something he could never do. Her voice was filled with terror, as if we were harboring a vicious beast. She had already called the police and demanded that the «dangerous» dog be put down immediately.

I was shaking with a mix of fear and confusion but tried to remain calm.

My dog wouldn’t hurt anyone,» I said, trying to steady my voice. «He’s friendly and loves children. Maybe your daughter did something. If you don’t believe me, we have a security camera. Would you like to see what happened?»

The police officers agreed, and we went inside. The camera above the door covered the entire yard, including the area where the incident had occurred.

The girl was holding something in her hand… something shiny…

It was a stun gun.

The police exchanged stunned looks.

The footage clearly showed the girl approaching Rocky, reaching out, and then—click. The dog yelped, jumped up, and darted away in panic. The girl stumbled backward and fell to the ground. The scratch was likely from the fall or maybe a bush she had brushed against.

The mother turned ashen when she saw the footage.

“This can’t be…” she murmured, visibly shaken. “This… this isn’t hers…”

One of the officers addressed her.

“Where did the child get a stun gun?”

The woman sank down onto the floor.

“It’s… my husband’s… He kept it in the car… she must have taken it without asking…”

We sat in stunned silence. Rocky, seemingly relieved, quietly walked into the house as if to check that everything was alright.

My poor dog. The things he had to endure from these rude and careless people!
