Neptune, long celebrated for its intelligence and grace in the water, shocked onlookers by breaking formation and attacking during the middle of a live act. Screams erupted from the audience as staff rushed to respond.

But this wasn’t an isolated case.

Around the world, similar incidents have raised growing concerns about the risks involved in marine animal performances. A small number of orcas, like Neptune, have veered off-script in recent years—transforming what were meant to be polished, safe routines into dangerous encounters.

The incident has reignited urgent conversations about the ethics of keeping orcas in captivity and the psychological toll of performance-based training.
