“Your mom just arrived in the waiting room,” he said carefully. “She demanded to speak with you.”
I almost laughed, a hard, ragged, humorless sound that scraped my raw throat. “Demanded? Of course she did. It was always about what she demanded.” My voice was shaking so badly I could barely form the words. “Is Daisy stable?”
He nodded. “For now. We’ll watch her all night.”
